Title: International Experience in Intelligent Transportation Systems
Length: One day (eight hours)
Number of slides: 242
Instructors: Mark Carter, SAIC; Steve Tarry, Faber Maunsell; Neil Perks, GHD
Setting: Pre-Congress Workshop, 14th ITS World Congress, Beijing, China, October 2007
Language: English
Notes: The "Evaluation 101" curriculum was customized for in-house training of World Bank employees in Beijing, China. This course contains an introduction on what exactly ITS, plus an emphasis on "maximizing your investment". The U.S. and European ITS evaluation methodologies have been fully integrated and a single ITS evaluation process is presented, along with a discussion of evaluation techniques and measures and when to use them. The second half of this one-day course is the application of the process, techniques and measures to three detailed case studies: from California, France, and the I-95 corridor in the Eastern U.S. The course concludes with a list of resources from the U.S. and Europe that can assist those planning their own evaluations, as well as those interested in learning more about the benefits, costs, extent of deployment, and lessons learned about ITS.

Title: International Experience in Intelligent Transportation Systems
Length: Half-day (four hours)
Number of slides: 100
Instructor: Patty del Pozo, ITS America
Setting: PIARC Committee C.14 on Management of Network Operations Seminar, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, August 2006
Language: English
Notes: This is an adbridged version of the "International Experience in ITS" course, shortened to half a day. This course contains an introduction on what exactly ITS, plus an emphasis on "maximizing your investment". The U.S. and European ITS evaluation methodologies have been fully integrated and a single ITS evaluation process is presented, along with a discussion of evaluation techniques and measures and when to use them. The process, techniques and measures are then applied to a real-world case study: evaluation of coordinated transit services in the tourist city of South Lake Tahoe, California. The course concludes with a list of resources from the U.S. and Europe that can assist those planning their own evaluations, as well as those interested in learning more about the benefits, costs, extent of deployment, and lessons learned about ITS.
Title: ITS Evaluation 101 Training Session
Length: Half-day (four hours)
Number of slides: 195
Instructors: Joe Peters, U.S. Department of Transportation; Mark Carter, SAIC; Steve Morello, ISIS; Steve Tarry, Faber Maunsell
Setting: 10th ITS World Congress, Madrid, Spain, November 2003
Language: English
Notes: The training session that started it all. The prevalent methodologies for ITS evaluation used in the U.S. and Europe are examined to reveal their (few) differences and (many) similarities. A process that incorporates elements of both the U.S. and European method is presented, followed by a discussion of evaluation techniques and measures and when to use them. The process, techniques and measures are then applied to a hypothetical case study involving the selection of an automated incident detection system. The course concludes with a list of resources from the U.S. and Europe that can assist those planning their own evaluations, as well as those interested in learning more about the benefits and costs of ITS.
